'Ethos' is a group of Americans who have just released their second studio album 'Shade and Soil' which mixes different styles from classical to metal. It is therefore necessary to be well hung and to love especially the large gaps to penetrate their universe. The example is 'The Archetype Suite' which is composed of 3 tracks : the first title 'Strange Atlas' is classic with the use of a piano, a violin and an acoustic guitar for a melancholic atmosphere. With the second part, 'the Lonely King', electric instruments enter the track for a complex title in its construction that could be placed between rock and metal and has a constantly changing of tempo which makes it less accessible (for me, it is certainly one of the most successful tracks on the album). The third part of this trilogy 'Apotheosis' brings us back to a calmer atmosphere with again the use of acoustic instruments that mix with the electric instruments for a climb crescendo which falls back to a final exploding again and the voice of Austen that becomes aggressive. To sum up, 'Ethos' releases a sophisticated and innovative album which must be tame listening after listening and which will inevitably be intended to an informed public who enjoys at the same time different styles very distant from each other...
