'Anasazi' is a French band that is already fifteen years old and has already released 4 LPs, and only the last one of 2014, '1000 Yard Stare' appears on Spotify. The Grenoblois led by 'Mathieu Madani' come back in 2018 with a 5th album 'Ask the Dust'. Their style can be compared to the mix of 2 projects of 'Steven Wilson', 'Porcupine Tree' (last period for the metal side) and 'Blackfield' (for the soft side) with also multiple influences in the pop and rock of the early 70s. From the beginning, with 'Staring at the Sun', neo-progressive fans will find themselves on familiar ground with a little nod to some chords of the 'I Want You' from The Beatles. Follows the melodic 'Miles Away' with its powerful chorus then 'Feeling Nothing' embarks us in a succession of breaks of rhythm and 'Drift Away' presents 2 distinct facets with a calm first part then a crescendo led by powerfull guitar riffs. The sequel always refers to this mix of progressive and classic pop/rock as in the magnificent 'Still I Can not Hide' with a classic first part verse chorus and a second part that takes us back a few decades in some titles of the first period of the 'Floyds' . In summary, with this latest album, the Grenoblois of 'anasazi' continue to forge their own identity in the progressive French landscape and confirms all their potential: if you are fond of an accessible progressive style, this 'Ask fthe Dust' is for you...
