The German group 'Frequency Drift' continues to release a new album nearly every year and 'Letters to Maro' is their 8th studio recording released under the indie label ‘Gentle Art of Music’ ceated by 'Kalle Wallner' and 'Yogi Lang' (RPWL). Led by the multi-instrumentist and composer 'Andreas Hack', this new album includes a new female singer 'Irini Alexia' who is also the author and the various titles which tell through letters, the story of a man who go back to where he grew up with all the memories that come to the surface. The atmosphere is melancholic and emotional, while maintaining a certain lightness and Irini's airy and gliding voice lends very well to this general atmosphere. The style is close to a progressive rock of the 70s where one finds influences of formations like 'Renaissance' ('Izanami' or 'Escalator') or 'Mike Oldfield' ('Dear Maro' or 'Who's Master') with a mix of modernism and the addition here and there of electronic sounds. Of course, as often in this case, it is necessary to appropriate each title and it is after being impregnated with each detail that we can discover all the richness of these compositions which alternate tension and relaxation brimming with emotion. In summary, this 'Letters to Maro' is an album of great quality and sensitivity brought in part by the beautiful voice of Irina and it's quite the style of music to take the time to listen to the headphones in a quiet place to fully enjoy this melancholy journey...
