What's new at 'Arjen Lucassen'... well, is no longer a project near and 2015 sees the new baby of the maestro with the name of 'The Gentle Storm'. This new project sees 'Anneke Van Giersbergen' to join 'Arjen' for a double album (she had already participated in 2 albums of Ayreon'). 'The Diary' (in the sense of log book) tells the writings of a sailor with his wife during a maritime mission. Story ends tragically because his wife, during his absence, will the world their son before he fell ill and died before the return of her husband. To narrate this story in music, 'Arjen' has not one but two albums of the same titles, one presenting a version of 'Gentle' (which might be called acoustic) and other 'Storm' (more epic and symphonic). We feel in the two versions of securities made to measure for 'Anneke' that make us travel between singing limpid and delicate in quieter versions and which presents a different face much more lyrical in the parts more removed. In his usual 'Arjen' gratifies arrangements very rich and uses different classical instruments to achieve its ends. For those accustomed to the sound of Arjen metal', forget because this new project presents us with a 'Arjen' much more intimate completely in phase with this story conveying many emotions. In summary, still a very great success for this man orchestra which hit once again in spot-on...
