Tagged Progressive Metal, 'Artificial Language' is a band of Americans who release their first album 'The Observer'. So, progressive metal or not ? It is not obvious with the short first title 'Observer' whose piano introduction reminds me of 'Supertramp' and then a part sung of 'Blackfield'. The title 'The Grand Sceptic' is certainly more energetic but combines classical themes with progressive rock with a piano always present preceding the final crescendo. The continuation is close to the beginning, classical themes such as 'Unself Portrait', 'Fortune Teller' or 'The Silver Cord', which are comparable to symphonic music sprinkled with various influences. We can note the last title 'Turn Of The Pictures' of more than 8 minutes (while all others remain around 3 minutes) which sums up the whole. In conclusion, as you will have understood, I did not find much metal in it and, for a first opus, even if the compositions still lack diversity, 'Artificial Language' show us their potential and should appeal to a symphonic rock audience...
