A short tour of France with the direct and effective hard rock of 'Blackrain' who have just released their 7th album, 'Untamed', after the very good 'Released' in 2016 and 'Dying Breed' in 2019. Everything I had written in my previous columns is still coming to fruition with this new baby from the French: big sound, overflowing energy and catchy melodies on first listen. From the start, with the eponymous title of the album (see the video above), we get a good dose of adrenaline with a first screaming chorus and sharp saturated guitars, the enormous guitar solo coming to give a layer. The album is launched and 'Kiss The Sky', which follows, pours out a new well-muscled hard rock noise, then, 'Dawn Of Hell' lifts its foot slightly with a memorable chorus that tickles your neurons. We continue in the same style with 'All The Darkness' which delivers a new memorable melody, then, the melodic jewel 'Demon' (see the video here) flirts with more measured hard and 'Summer Jesus' (see the video here) brings us back to the raw and heavy energy of a direct and effective hard rock with radiant choirs. The second part of the album is like the first and delivers powerful new titles like 'Set the World in Fire', 'Blade Of Love' or even 'Raise of Glass' and, we won't miss no more addictive refrains from 'Neon Drift' (see the video here) and from mid-tempo 'The End' which shows a more subdued face. In short, no need to add more, the French of 'Blackrain' continue to deliver good hard rock overflowing with a communicative energy with catchy melodies, all this being interpreted by the hands of masters and, icing on the cake, benefiting from a production highlighting an exceptional dynamic that this kind of music needs...
