'Overworld Dreams' is an American progressive rock band that I discovered with this second cover album 'Under The Covers II' but who also released two albums of original compositions, 'Voyage' in 2018 and 'Gateway' in 2019 and a first covers album 'Under The Covers I' in 2020. First of all, if you don't know this formation and you like progressive rock of the 70s, I strongly advise you to listen to the first two albums because I found myself on familiar ground with influences from the great groups of the beginning of the progressive like 'Genesis', 'Yes' or even more recent formations like 'Marillion' or 'Saga'. Regarding the first cover album, we sailed with groups like 'UK', 'Billy Thorpe', 'Rush', 'Genesis', 'Styx', 'Opeth', 'Journey' or even 'Porcupine Tree' and the latest album focuses a bit more on the early 1980s with 'Genesis' in the spotlight and the album 'Duke' which is interpreted with a first title of almost 28 minutes which connects 6 of the 12 titles of the original album which are then taken up as individual titles. The rest of the opus is divided between the magnificent covers of 'Hey You' by 'Pink Floyd' in 2 versions, the no less magnificent cover of 'Red Rain' by 'Peter Gabriel' and the melodic 'Best of your Times' from 'Styx' from the album 'Paradise Theatre' from 1981. In short, the Americans of 'Overworld Dreams' release a quality album highlighting the 'Duke' album of 'Genesis' with, icing on the cake, a remarkable interpretation and a modern sound and these covers take us back a few decades and remind us of those beautiful moments of listening to the first progressive rock bands of the 70s... | |
